Gardner Train Derailment 2014
Fours cars of an 80 car train derailed and rolled onto their side at a level grade crossing at South Main St near Travers St in Gardner, Massachusetts on February 19th. There were no injuries.
The derailed cars were loaded with brand new cars, with one rail car coming to rest against, but not damaging a garage of an occupied residence. Another hung precariously over a small river.
Gardner Fire Department responded, investigated, and made the scene safe. Within 24 hours, the Providence and Worcester Railroad had uprighted the cars and cleared the tracks.
